Why you should start with a TPI Screening
Apr 19, 2020
Ok, so you have decided to work on your fitness, specifically to help you in your sport. Congratulations on taking this step that many don't! Now....
Where do you start?
I believe you should always start with your goal in mind and a plan of attack. Want to lose weight? Get stronger? Play better golf? Just move better?
The answer to that question should drive your decision of where to start. And if you are looking to play better golf or even just move better, then the best place to start is with a TPI Screening.
As a fitness instructor that specializes in golf (and a decent player myself), all my clients go through a Titleist Peformance Institute (TPI) Physical Screening. Ideally I would screen them, but if they've recently been screened by another TPI professional then we will use those results. That's one of the great things about TPI Screenings - you must be certified through them to be able to perform the screening. This means that if a player goes from one instructor to another, the screenings should be extremely similar.
Why use the TPI Screening for golfers? Here is an exerpt from their website
"TPI is the world's leading educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing.
Since its inception in 2003, TPI has studied thousands of golfers ranging from the top professional Tour players to weekend enthusiasts. An incredible amount of data on players of all shapes, sizes, ages, and fitness levels has been gathered during this time. Using this data, TPI discovered how a properly functioning body allows a player to swing a golf club in the most efficient way possible. Additionally, TPI has analyzed how physical limitations in a player’s body can adversely affect the golf swing and potentially lead to injury."
By getting screened this provides us with the best, most efficient way of learning where you need to spend your time in the gym. And every single player is different. My belief is that if you truly want to work on your golf fitness, getting a screen is the best place to start.
The video on this blog post is from my remote screening with Kyle from AmateurGolf.com
If you are looking to improve your golf game then fitness should play a major part in your plan. I've been able to successfully move my screenings to be very efficient remotely, using video along with some client help to give us a great plan of attack. Several clients have been able to begin working on their golf fitness through my screenings and remote/online programs.
